St. Margaret School in Narberth is kicking off Catholic Schools Week in a mighty, actually a “Mighty Macs,” kind of way.
When a group of parents from St. Margaret School received approval from Sony Pictures for a special screening of “The Mighty Macs” as a fundraiser for the Narberth Community Food Bank during Catholic Schools Week, organizers jumped into action.
The screening will be held on Saturday, January 28 at 10:00am at the Narberth Theater, located at 129 North Narberth Avenue in Narberth. The “admission price per person” is $5.00 plus one canned good. Both theaters will show the movie simultaneously, so that up to 400 people can be accommodated. Doors will open at 9:15 to accept donations prior to seating.
The organizers’ goal is to fill both theaters with students and families from both the parish community and the surrounding area – anyone who didn’t get to see Mighty Macs when it was released in October is welcome to come. If both theaters fill that morning, then St. Margaret’s will be able to give the Narberth Community Food Bank a significant cash donation plus hundreds of canned goods to fill its shelves for awhile.
“It’s important to all of us to find ways to help the needy, especially in our immediate community. So many people in Lower Merion find ways to volunteer and make donations to this valuable resource that’s literally, in our own backyard,” said parent organizer, Chris Maguire.
The Mighty Macs (www.themightymacs.com) is an inspiring, true story about Immaculata College’s Cinderella team, whose coach, Cathy Rush, faced challenges as imposing as the big-school teams her Macs would face.
