Please Touch Museum invites little ones to experience the magic of color and music with TWO fantastic reasons to visit Memorial Hall on Saturday, May 4th:

·It’s officially May, and that means it’s time for the jazziest festival of the year! The 21st Annual Junior Jazz Festival begins this weekend and lasts all month-long. The only event in the Philadelphia region to introduce young children to the wonderful world of jazz. Highlights include kid-friendly live music, theater performances, and educational activities that focus on musical expression, improvisation, and creativity. Family-oriented Latin jazz musician Louie Miranda will kick off the performance schedule on Saturday with concerts at 11:00 a.m., 1:00, p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

·The Crayola Experience will visit Please Touch Museum from 9 - 11 a.m. for a morning of colorful fun, including a photo booth, craft activities, and special Crayola character appearance.

All activities are free with museum admission.

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, along with the National Sage Boating Council (NSBC) and the Canadian Safe Boating Council (CSBC) will host "Ready, Set, Wear It!" on Saturday, May 18 at Independence Seaport Museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This event heightens awareness of different life jacket types that are available to educate the boating public about the safety and comfort of inflatable jackets. Last year 3,993 people gathers at more than 145 events held around the world to set a new record for the number of participants who inflated their inflatable life jacket. Let's make a new record this year!

There will be vessel safety checks, boating safety classes and activities that are open to the public at no cost. www.phillyseaport.org

On the third Saturday of each month, Independence Seaport Museum hosts Seafarin' Saturdays, a hands-on family program with a maritime theme.

Seafarin' Saturdays activities and crafts are included with regular Museum admission.

Saturday, May 18, 2013 2:00 PM - 2:30 PM - Performance: “From Out of the Fiery Furnace”

Experience the stories of life in the 19th century at Hopewell Village around the Civil War. This play demonstrates how a woman’s life and love could be singularly tracked through her relationship with a Hopewell Stove. Meet several characters of the period including runaway slaves, “fallen” women, indentured servants, orphaned children, and others. Provided by the National Park Service from Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site.

All ages; free, suggested $2 donation per person, pre-registration required.

Join us for Toddler Time, a newly designed program that will allow children, ages 18 months to 4 years, to explore the museum through the theme of the Four Seasons, using song, movement games, drawing, collage and dramatic play. Toddler Time occurs every third Tuesday of the month.

The cost is $5 per child and session or $15 for 4 sessions. This program is free for museum members' children, and there is no charge for accompanying caregivers. Register online or call (215) 389-1776. www.americanswedish.org
